French manufacturers in the first half of the last century made a specialty of putting racing car engines and chassis under luxurious, exotic, refined coachwork. One of them was Talbot-Lago and its hemispherical combustion chamber, dual camshaft, 4.5 liter six-cylinder engine won Le Mans in 1950.
The same engine powered the T26 Record. Bodied by Talbot with streamlined cabriolet coachwork, the T26 Record had 170hp, a Wilson pre-selector 4-speed transmission, independent front suspension and exquisite road manners. This beautiful T26 Record was restored in the 1990's by Richard Adatto, the acknowledged authority on Delahayes, Talbot-Lagos and French coachwork.
It won its class at Pebble Beach and then went on to further concours awards including a CCCA Senior National First Prize. It is finished in Blue with Grey leather upholstery, a Black cloth top and a Tan cloth top boot. The sweeping teardrop fenders are accented with bright trim.
Blackwall Michelin tires ride on chrome wire wheels. This beautiful car is restored exactly correctly, is dead straight and has been done right. It runs and drives well and even fifteen years after its completion the restoration is still concours-ready.
It is a car with absolutely no stories, no questions and it has marvelous provenance. It meets the highest expectations. |
